SRINAGAR, September 5: Jammu and Kashmir’s Education Minister, Sakina Itoo, announced on Saturday that the government intends to introduce a resolution in the Legislative Assembly concerning the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET). The minister stated that the government is actively seeking a reconsideration of the Supreme Court’s decision on the matter, emphasizing the mental distress faced by teachers in the region.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the issue of TET has been pending before the Supreme Court. The Jammu and Kashmir Education Department has been persistently approaching the apex court to seek a review of the existing decision. Minister Itoo highlighted that the ongoing uncertainty surrounding TET has a significant impact on the teachers, affecting their ability to concentrate and effectively impart knowledge to students.
“The teachers of J&K are mentally disturbed with regard to this matter and with this constant issue they cannot teach the students with full concentration,” the minister stated, underscoring the emotional toll on the teaching fraternity. She further elaborated that the teachers are responsible for preparing a large number of students for various examinations and are capable of qualifying any assessment.
However, Minister Itoo stressed that the TET issue transcends a mere eligibility test, asserting that it is intrinsically linked to the respect and dignity of the teaching profession. She reiterated the government’s commitment to upholding the integrity and honor of teachers.
“Our teachers are preparing lakhs of students for exams and they are efficient enough to qualify any test but as far the TeT is concerned, it isn’t a matter of test only but the respect and dignity of the teachers,” she added. The minister conveyed that the government prioritizes the respect and standing of its educators.
To address the ongoing concerns and provide a sense of stability, the Education Minister confirmed that a resolution would be introduced in the upcoming session of the Legislative Assembly. The objective is to pass this resolution, aiming to alleviate the disturbance and uncertainty experienced by the teachers.
“The respect of teachers is important for the government and to keep their integrity, we will introduce a resolution in upcoming legislative assembly and will pass it so that the teachers will come out of this disturbances,” Minister Itoo concluded, signaling a proactive step by the administration to resolve the long-standing issue.
