Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, representing former U.S. President Donald Trump, held discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Saturday concerning potential pathways to resolve the war in Ukraine. The Chenab Times has learned that the meetings, which took place at the Kremlin, involved the presentation of American proposals for a settlement to the conflict. Russian officials described the talks as “constructive” and “extremely frank,” with President Putin conveying his gratitude to former President Trump for his peace efforts and acknowledging the difficult situation in Ukraine. During the visit, President Putin ordered a three-day pause on strikes targeting Kyiv, beginning midnight Saturday, in connection with the planned visit of Kushner and Witkoff to the Ukrainian capital. Ukraine, in turn, agreed to refrain from strikes on Moscow during the envoys’ visit. These diplomatic engagements mark an effort to revive stalled peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, which had seen momentum wane as U.S. attention shifted towards the conflict in Iran.
The current round of discussions follows previous meetings between Kushner, Witkoff, and Putin. In December 2025, the envoys met with Putin for talks described as “constructive” but which did not yield a breakthrough. Former President Trump has previously expressed his commitment to brokering a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine commenced on February 24, 2022, escalating a conflict that has had significant international repercussions. The envoys’ visit to Moscow also occurred amidst an escalation of aerial attacks by both sides in the conflict.
This diplomatic initiative by former President Trump’s representatives underscores an ongoing effort to find a resolution to the protracted war.
