Police in Anantnag and Kulgam districts of Jammu and Kashmir have apprehended four individuals suspected of drug trafficking in separate operations, recovering a significant quantity of contraband material.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the crackdown is part of an ongoing sustained effort by the Jammu and Kashmir Police to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse across the region. The operations were conducted over a period of time, leading to the arrests and seizures.
Anantnag Operations Uncover Brown Sugar and Charas
In the Anantnag district, two separate operations yielded the arrest of three individuals. The first incident occurred when a police party from Police Station Bijbehara, during routine naka checking on the Katriteng-Waghama Road, intercepted two persons. Identified as Ubaid Rashid Dar, son of Abdul Rashid Dar, a resident of Waghama, and Javaid Ahmad Parray, son of Mohd Maqbool Parray, a resident of Jablipora, they were found in possession of 4.49 grams of brown sugar. A case, FIR No. 259/2026, has been registered at Police Station Bijbehara, and further investigation is underway.
In a subsequent operation in Anantnag, a police party from Police Station Anantnag, while conducting checks near Batapora Bridge, apprehended Shahid Maqsood Khuroo, son of Maqsood Ahmad, a resident of Guri Kharipora. During a search, Charas was recovered from his possession. This led to the registration of FIR No. 303/2026 at Police Station Anantnag, with investigations initiated.
Kulgam Operation Leads to Charas Recovery
Simultaneously, in the Kulgam district, police arrested another individual during dynamic naka checking within the jurisdiction of Police Station Devsar. At Sopat, near Ziyarat Sharif Link Road, a suspicious person identified as Rouf Ahmad Dar, son of Abdul Rashid Dar, a resident of Gund Tankipora, was intercepted. A search revealed a polythene bag containing 746 grams of a charas-like substance in his possession. Police have registered FIR No. 65/2026 at Police Station Devsar and have commenced an investigation into the matter.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police have urged the general public to remain vigilant and to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by sharing any credible information regarding drug peddling or other suspicious activities. The authorities have assured that the identity of informants will be kept confidential to encourage community participation in maintaining law and order and curbing the menace of drug abuse.
