SRINAGAR, September 21: The Jammu and Kashmir government has created 899 new posts across various departments since October 16, 2024, it was informed during the Legislative Assembly session on Monday.
Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that the Health & Medical Education Department accounted for the largest share, establishing 485 new positions. The Housing and Urban Development Department followed with 266 new posts, and the Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Department created 82 positions.
Further details revealed that the Jal Shakti Department sanctioned 43 new posts, while the Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (DMRRR) added 16 positions. Smaller numbers of new posts were created in other departments, including three in Cooperatives, two in Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, and one each in the ARI & Trainings and Transport Departments.
The assembly also received figures regarding selections finalised by the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) and the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) during the same period. A total of 7,580 selections were completed by these recruitment agencies. The JKPSC finalized 1,768 selections, while the JKSSB concluded 5,812 selections.
Regarding vacancies referred to these recruitment bodies, the government stated that 1,852 vacancies were sent to the JKPSC. These referrals were categorized, including 855 under Open Merit, 198 for Scheduled Caste (SC), 156 for ST-1, 156 for ST-2, 114 for Other Backward Classes (OBC), 65 for ALC/IB, 149 for RBA, 139 for EWS, four for PSP, and six for ST backlog vacancies.
For the JKSSB, a substantially larger number of 12,418 vacancies were referred. These comprised 5,173 under Open Merit, 1,104 for SC, 1,248 for ST-1, 1,212 for ST-2, 933 for OBC, 495 for ALC/IB, 1,174 for RBA, and 1,079 for EWS. In total, both recruitment agencies received 14,270 vacancies for recruitment processing during the specified timeframe.
