Selection trials to form the Punjab Senior Men’s Hockey Team for the upcoming 16th Hockey India Senior Men’s National Championship will be conducted on September 30 at the Shaheed Darshan Singh KP Hockey Stadium in Mithapur, Jalandhar. The trials are scheduled to commence at 8 am, with the national championship itself slated to take place in Rourkela, Odisha, from October 10 to October 21, 2026.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the selection process is open exclusively to players who are bonafide residents of Punjab. A crucial eligibility criterion states that participants must not have taken part in the Junior National Hockey Championship and the Sub-Junior National Hockey Championship, both organized by Hockey India in 2026. Players who have previously competed in these specific junior championships are expressly barred from appearing for these senior selection trials.
Hockey Punjab President Nitin Kohli and Secretary General Amrik Singh Powar provided these details, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the eligibility norms to ensure a fair selection process.
