Two incarcerated gangsters, identified as Naveen Bali and Sandeep alias Dhillu, are accused of assaulting and threatening prison officials within the high-security ward of Central Jail No. 2 in Tihar. The inmates also allegedly attempted to inflict self-injuries by repeatedly banging their heads against walls and other objects, according to prison authorities.
Incident Details Emerge from High-Security Ward
Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that the alleged incident transpired in the final week of September. Jail officials reported that the duo created a disruptive environment within the ward, intimidating staff and issuing explicit death threats to ward officials and jail superintendents. A source privy to the developments stated that the gangsters warned jail officials of severe repercussions, including their lives.
The actions of Bali and Dhillu reportedly induced a state of panic among the prison staff, significantly impeding the normal functioning of official duties within the high-security area. The situation escalated during an e-Mulaqat, a video conference facility for inmates to meet family members, when Sandeep alias Dhillu reportedly became agitated.
Aggression and Disturbing Behaviour Reported
During the e-Mulaqat, Sandeep alias Dhillu allegedly began hurling abuses at the jail staff present. Subsequently, he is said to have attempted to physically attack the personnel. In a disturbing turn of events, the inmate then commenced hitting his head against doors, walls, and a cooler unit within the vicinity. Prison staff immediately intervened to restrain the inmate, ensuring his safety and allowing for the continuation of the family interview. Following the interview, Dhillu was reportedly directed to return to his designated block.
Jail officials noted that Dhillu’s behaviour suggested a possible influence of narcotic substances. Consequently, he was subjected to a urine test. The incident is currently under thorough examination as a security-related matter, with authorities investigating the conduct of both inmates and the specific circumstances surrounding the alleged threats and attempts at self-harm.
The Tihar Jail administration has initiated a comprehensive review of the security protocols and the management of high-risk inmates following this occurrence. Officials are assessing the evidence gathered, including witness accounts from prison staff and any available CCTV footage, to ascertain the full details of the events. The investigation will also focus on identifying any potential lapses in security or procedures that may have contributed to the incident.
The actions of individuals like Naveen Bali and Sandeep Dhillu highlight the ongoing challenges faced by correctional facilities in managing inmates with a history of violence and criminal activity. Ensuring the safety of both prison staff and other inmates remains a paramount concern for jail authorities across the country. The authorities are committed to maintaining order and discipline within the correctional environment.
