POONCH, October 7: A 17-year-old girl from Pakistan-administered Kashmir (PaK) who had inadvertently crossed the Line of Control earlier this month has been repatriated to Pakistan through the Chakkan Da Bagh border crossing in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. The repatriation took place on Tuesday after all necessary legal procedures were completed.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, the girl, identified as Samiya Azeem, daughter of Mohammad Azeem and a resident of Bains Gala in the Kotli district of PaK, was apprehended by Indian Army personnel on October 2. She had crossed into Indian territory in the Nowshera sector.
Following her apprehension, the authorities initiated the process for her repatriation. The Army and police facilitated her movement from the Lam Police Post to the Chakkan Da Bagh crossing point. The repatriation was carried out in coordination with the relevant authorities on both sides of the border, adhering to established protocols for such incidents.
The incident highlights the porous nature of the Line of Control and the complexities of managing cross-border movements, particularly involving individuals who may have crossed unintentionally. Such repatriations are typically handled with sensitivity and in accordance with international agreements governing border management and humanitarian considerations.
Chakkan Da Bagh, located in the Poonch district, serves as a key crossing point for trade and the movement of people between India and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. It has been the site of several repatriation exercises in the past, underscoring its significance in facilitating cross-border interactions under controlled circumstances.
The formal repatriation involved meticulous completion of documentation and verification processes, ensuring that the individual was returned to her native region safely. The exercise was a collaborative effort involving various security and administrative departments to ensure compliance with all legal and procedural requirements.
