The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab has announced plans to protest outside the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office in Ludhiana on Friday afternoon, in response to raids conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) across the state. The planned demonstration is set to take place at the Dana Mandi office at 3 pm.
Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that the Commissioner of Police, Swapan Sharma, has stated that the protest is expected to be peaceful. However, local BJP leaders have called upon their supporters to gather at the office by 2:30 pm sharp, anticipating a counter-demonstration or a need for security.
Protest Amidst CBI Raids
The CBI raids have become a focal point of political contention in Punjab. The AAP government views the raids as politically motivated, while the BJP asserts that the investigations are being conducted under judicial orders. Ludhiana BJP president Sunil Modgil stated that the state government’s actions are unwarranted, emphasizing that the raids were initiated following an order from the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Modgil further alleged that the AAP’s intention to protest outside the BJP office signals a desire to disrupt the prevailing peace in the state. In response, he announced that BJP supporters would be present and would burn an effigy of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann concurrently with the AAP protest.
The AAP leadership in Ludhiana appears to be coordinating the protest following directives from the party’s central command, which were reportedly issued around 11 am on Friday. Security measures have been initiated, with police commencing the erection of barricades in the vicinity of the BJP office to prevent any untoward incidents and manage the expected gatherings.
Jatinder Khangura, the AAP’s Ludhiana president, informed that approximately 400 party members are anticipated to participate in the demonstration. He assured that the protest would be conducted peacefully and participants would adhere to the barricaded limits set by the authorities.
