The Amritsar Rural police have successfully dismantled two significant illegal arms and narcotics supply chains, leading to the arrest of four individuals. During separate operations, authorities confiscated a sophisticated M16 rifle, nine unregistered pistols, 25 live cartridges, and approximately 15 kilograms of opium.

Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that the recovery of advanced weaponry, including an M16 rifle of military-grade design, has triggered concerns within police circles regarding the proliferation of such firearms in illegal circulation.

Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav stated that the police are actively investigating the origins of the seized weapons and tracing the suspected narcotics supply chain. Preliminary investigations suggest a connection between the arrested individuals and smugglers based abroad.

According to police statements, the accused allegedly procured illegal weapons and narcotics from Pakistan, utilizing drones for large-scale smuggling operations. Separate First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered at the Gharinda and Lopoke police stations in connection with these findings.

The Inspector General (IG) of Border Range, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, confirmed that further investigations are ongoing to establish the complete network, including backward and forward linkages, and to determine the full extent of the alleged illegal arms and narcotics trade. The focus remains on uncovering the entire modus operandi of these supply chains.

The seizure of an M16 rifle, a weapon typically associated with military forces, highlights a worrying trend in the types of firearms being trafficked through illicit channels. Law enforcement agencies are intensifying efforts to intercept such high-caliber weapons before they can be used in criminal activities.

The opium haul, weighing 15 kilograms, underscores the persistent challenge of drug trafficking in the region. The police are working to identify the intended distribution networks and to dismantle the broader drug trade infrastructure. The involvement of drones in these operations points to the evolving tactics employed by smuggling syndicates.

Sources within the police department indicated that the recovered pistols and live cartridges are also being analyzed to trace their origins and to ascertain if they have been used in any previous criminal incidents. The coordinated operations reflect a determined effort by the Amritsar Rural police to curb cross-border criminal activities.

The investigation aims to identify all individuals involved, from suppliers and transporters to potential recipients, and to bring them to justice. The DGP has commended the efforts of the Amritsar Rural police team for their vigilance and success in these operations. The ongoing probe is expected to yield further leads in combating arms and drug trafficking in the border areas.

The district police have pledged to maintain a strict vigil and to continue taking decisive action against any elements involved in anti-national and anti-social activities. The recovered opium is a significant quantity, suggesting a major disruption to a drug supply route. The combined seizure of weapons and narcotics signifies a substantial blow to organized criminal networks operating in the region.
