The Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a protest near the residence of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday, demanding an apology for his alleged disparaging remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The demonstration occurred in the wake of remarks made by Kharge during an event in Patna.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that protesters, comprising Delhi BJP leaders and workers, were intercepted by police as they attempted to march from Sena Bhawan Circle towards Kharge’s residence on Rajaji Marg. During the demonstration, participants chanted slogans accusing Kharge and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, of insulting the Prime Minister.
The BJP had called for nationwide protests following Kharge’s alleged comments, which were made during an event commemorating the 139th birth anniversary of Bihar’s first Chief Minister, Shrikrishna Singh. Reports indicate that during the function on Sunday, Kharge stated that the Congress would take action against those involved in alleged irregularities within the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. In response to an interjection from an audience member who shouted, “Modi won’t go anywhere,” Kharge retorted, “Modi ka baap bhi jayega, baap bhi jayega (even Modi’s father would go).”
In a related development, the Bihar BJP also organized a ‘Jan Akrosh March’ in Patna on Monday to protest Kharge’s remarks targeting Prime Minister Modi. BJP leaders in Bihar alleged that the comments reflected the opposition party’s growing frustration. The march, which commenced from the party headquarters and proceeded for approximately 1.5 kilometers to Dak Bungalow Chauraha, was led by Bihar BJP president Sanjay Saraogi. Protesters also burned an effigy of Kharge.
Sanjay Saraogi, addressing the gathering, demanded an apology from Kharge, the Congress party, and Rahul Gandhi. He contended that the Congress was channeling its frustration over declining public support towards Prime Minister Modi by making derogatory statements about his parents. However, RJD leader Bhai Virendra defended Kharge’s statement, characterizing it as a “slip of the tongue” and asserting that an apology was unnecessary.
