Himachal Pradesh is set to generate ₹400 crore over the next four months through the sale of electricity to Rajasthan at a rate of ₹15.50 per unit. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu stated that this agreement marks a significant stride in bolstering the state’s financial standing and achieving economic self-reliance.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that during a public gathering at Banjaraadu Kala Manch within the Churah Assembly constituency of Chamba district, Chief Minister Sukhu announced that four senior secondary schools located in Himgiri, Thalli, Jajjakothi, and Maroond will be affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). This move aims to enhance educational opportunities in these areas.
The state government is actively implementing measures to strengthen the economy and curb corruption, according to the Chief Minister. Himachal Pradesh has also intensified its discussions with the central government regarding its request to increase the state’s free power share in the 180-MW Baira-Siul Hydroelectric Project to 50 per cent. This demand follows the project’s completion of 44 years of operation.
Chief Minister Sukhu highlighted a recent legal triumph in the Wildflower Hall case, which had been pending since 2003. The state secured a favourable verdict, leading to a recovery of ₹401 crore. This property is now anticipated to generate approximately ₹37 crore in annual revenue through e-auctioning. The state had not received any revenue from this asset for the preceding 23 years.
The administration has prioritised the enhancement of the rural economy by establishing minimum support prices for key agricultural products. These include ₹150 per kilogram for raw turmeric, ₹80 for wheat, and ₹50 for maize. Furthermore, procurement prices for milk have been set at ₹61 per litre for cow’s milk and ₹71 per litre for buffalo milk, providing a stable income for dairy farmers.
In the education sector, the government is committed to establishing Rajiv Gandhi Government Model Day-Boarding Schools, CBSE-affiliated institutions, and centres of excellence. The recruitment of teachers is being conducted on merit, with over 2,700 teachers already appointed. Additionally, plans are underway to introduce more than 100 new CBSE-affiliated schools across the state.
The Chief Minister also critiqued the previous Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, alleging that numerous educational and health institutions were inaugurated without adequate staffing. He stated that his government has undertaken a rationalisation of institutions and filled thousands of vacant teaching positions to ensure the effective functioning of these facilities.
Among the dignitaries present at the event were MLA Neeraj Nayyar, former minister Asha Kumari, former MLA Surender Bhardwaj, and Zila Parishad chairperson Rekha Thakur, underscoring the participation of local leadership in the Chief Minister’s engagements.
