Jammu and Kashmir: National Conference Legislators Assured Grievances Will Be Addressed

Srinagar, Nov 06: National Conference legislator Nazir Ahmad Gurezi on Friday dismissed rumours of a breakaway faction emerging within the party, stating that legislators who had recently met were merely seeking to present their concerns to the party leadership.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that Gurezi, speaking to reporters following a meeting with National Conference president Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah along with other party legislators at the Gupkar residence, conveyed that the party’s top leadership had assured them of prompt and phased resolution of their grievances.

Gurezi emphasized the unity of the National Conference legislators, explaining that their recent gathering was a standard practice for raising issues with the party hierarchy. He directly addressed social media speculation that portrayed the meeting as the formation of a separate party, stating, “There was no such group.”

The legislators articulated their concerns directly to Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah during the meeting. Gurezi stated that the leadership had assured them that matters, whether political or otherwise, would be addressed, with some resolved immediately and others gradually.

This clarification comes amidst reports of internal dissent within the National Conference following a recent cabinet expansion, which had reportedly caused discontent among a segment of the party’s legislators. These legislators had previously held consultations among themselves, fueling speculation about the potential formation of a distinct faction within the party.

However, Gurezi maintained that these meetings were aimed at discussing concerns and pursuing their resolution through the established party leadership, rather than challenging its authority. He added that the recent interaction provided a direct channel for legislators to present their grievances and receive assurances regarding their resolution.

The meeting held significant importance in light of recent political developments within the National Conference, with the leadership reportedly focusing on addressing the concerns raised by its elected representatives. Gurezi’s statement suggests that the legislators intend to continue advocating for their demands within the party framework while awaiting action on the assurances provided by Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah.
