Defence Forces Must Maintain Peak Readiness to Counter Evolving Threats: Rajnath Singh

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has urged the Indian Defence Forces to uphold the highest standards of operational readiness, emphasizing the critical need for enhanced domain awareness, robust cyber resilience, and unwavering information integrity to effectively confront emerging security challenges.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that during an interaction with Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel at Air Force Station, Bagdogra in West Bengal, on the eve of Diwali, Singh highlighted the increasing complexity of the security environment. He noted that modern warfare extends beyond conventional border engagements to include asymmetric warfare, proxy conflicts, cyber-attacks, drone swarms, information operations, and narrative management.

“The adversary often avoids direct confrontation and instead seeks to exploit our vulnerabilities. Through social media, the adversary may attempt to sow doubt in the minds of the local population and our soldiers by spreading misleading information. In such a scenario, your role extends beyond that of an ordinary soldier,” Singh stated.

Describing Bagdogra as a strategically vital region and a crucial component of India’s security architecture, particularly for the North-Eastern sector, the Defence Minister commended the courage and dedication of the defence personnel in safeguarding national interests. He affirmed that the Air Warriors stationed in the area serve as a formidable shield for the security of the eastern sector, and their preparedness is paramount for regional stability.

Singh underscored that discipline and courage remain indispensable, irrespective of technological advancements. He emphasized that the conduct, bearing, language, and restraint demonstrated by Defence Forces personnel significantly shape the military’s image among local communities. He lauded the soldiers for their dutiful conduct and urged them to strengthen their engagement with the local population around Bagdogra, fostering a deep bond of trust and affection between the people and the armed forces. “The more you engage with the local community, the weaker the adversary’s conspiracies will become,” he added.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to achieving self-reliance under the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative, Rajnath Singh pointed to the growing contributions of Indian start-ups and industries in developing critical military technologies such as drones, anti-drone systems, and advanced military equipment. He commended the defence forces for their adoption of indigenous technologies and the acquisition of new skills in drone operations and cybersecurity. Singh stressed the importance of making the military increasingly technology-driven to adeptly address future security challenges.

The Defence Minister also referred to the Cabinet’s approval of the ‘Second Tour of Duty’ for Agniveers, indicating that this decision will offer Agniveers another opportunity to serve the nation. He explained that upon completing their initial two-year engagement, all Agniveers will have the chance to be enrolled as regular soldiers, contingent upon their willingness and meeting the selection criteria. He characterized this decision as a significant Diwali gift for Agniveers, reinforcing the government’s dedication to the welfare of Defence Forces personnel and their families.

Rajnath Singh extended his Diwali greetings, wishing the Air Warriors and their families good health, happiness, and prosperity. He acknowledged that the personnel, despite being away from their families during the festival, remain steadfast in ensuring the security of fellow citizens. He expressed gratitude to their families for their sacrifices and contributions, emphasizing that while soldiers are committed to guarding the borders, the nation will always support their families and ensure their well-being.

Air Chief Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, Chief of the Air Staff; Air Commodore Manish Sharma, Air Officer Commanding, Air Force Station, Bagdogra; and other senior IAF officials were present during the event.
