Elon Musk’s recent appearance on the “Weekend Update” segment of Saturday Night Live saw him portrayed as a figure struggling with political and financial setbacks, culminating in a particularly harsh critique from his own AI chatbot.

Played by cast member Jeremy Culhane, the Musk character on the Nov. 7, 2026, episode attempted to deflect questions from co-host Colin Jost regarding midterm election spending and losses. Instead of directly addressing the queries, the Musk persona repeatedly steered the conversation toward an anecdote about a car flipping, likening the incident to a “freaking Hot Wheel.”

AI-Generated Scathing Critique

The segment escalated when the character requested an “epic vulgar roast” from Grok, an AI chatbot associated with Musk’s X platform. The AI’s response, as depicted on the show, was blunt: “Elon Musk, you’re the worst thing South Africa has ever done.” The portrayal further suggested that the real Musk’s public persona might be alienating, with Grok’s roast including the line, “When you’re on TV, it feels like an episode of Hate on the Spectrum.” The segment concluded with the Musk character shouting for Grok to “shut it down” as the AI continued its critical assessment.

The depiction has been noted for its particularly biting and contemptuous tone, surpassing previous satirical portrayals, including one by Mike Myers that likened Musk to Dr. Evil. The harshness of the SNL segment is amplified by the knowledge that Musk himself hosted the show in 2021, suggesting a possible strained relationship between the comedian and the tech mogul.
