KISHTWAR, Jan 6 – A mini load carrier bearing registration number JK17A8038 met with an accident on Saturday on the Thathri-Kishtwar stretch of National Highway 244 near Pani Nallah in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, leaving one dead and two others injured, officials said.
The victims—Mohammad Rafiq, Sahil Hussain, and Arbaz Ahmed—all residents of Pani Nallah, were initially taken to the Community Health Center (CHC) in Thathri before being shifted to the Government Medical College (GMC) in Doda for advanced treatment.
Sahil Hussain, a Madrasa student and son of Javeed Iqbal, succumbed to his injuries at GMC Doda, medical officials confirmed. The other two victims remain hospitalized, with their condition reported as stable.
The incident has raised concerns about safety on NH244, a key route connecting Batote to Kishtwar. Local residents have called for urgent measures, including better road signage, regular maintenance, and enhanced emergency response systems.
