Raghav Chadha Under Fire: AAP Claims MP Deleted Anti-BJP, Anti-Modi Posts

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has again accused its Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament, Raghav Chadha, of deleting social media posts that were critical of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This accusation comes amidst a public spat between Chadha and his party following his replacement as the AAP’s Deputy Leader in the Rajya Sabha.

Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that AAP Delhi convenor Saurabh Bhardwaj publicly stated on the social media platform X that Chadha had removed all his past posts on X that contained criticism of either Modi or the BJP. Bhardwaj asserted that a search of Chadha’s timeline for the terms “BJP” or “Modi” revealed no critical posts. According to Bhardwaj, the only two posts containing the word “Modi” were instances of praise for the Prime Minister, suggesting a deliberate effort to expunge critical content.

The party’s stance is that Chadha was removed from his leadership position because he was allegedly adopting a softer approach towards the BJP and Prime Minister Modi, possibly out of fear. This justification was put forth by Bhardwaj following a video statement released by Chadha. In his video, Chadha had dismissed the AAP’s charges, refuting claims that he was diverging from the Opposition’s stance to support the BJP, or that he was too intimidated to raise political issues against the ruling party, including concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls.

The public disagreement between Chadha and the AAP leadership intensified after MP Ashok Mittal was appointed to replace Chadha as the AAP’s Deputy Leader in the Rajya Sabha. The party leadership maintains its accusation that Chadha is aligning himself with the ruling party, evidenced by his alleged reluctance to voice anti-BJP sentiments in parliamentary proceedings. Conversely, Chadha has defended his record, asserting that he has consistently raised issues of public concern throughout his four-year tenure as a Member of Parliament.

The controversy highlights a growing internal rift within the Aam Aadmi Party, particularly concerning its strategy and public posturing against the dominant national political force. The party’s assertions about Chadha’s social media activity suggest an attempt to publicly substantiate their claims regarding his perceived shift in political allegiance. This development occurs at a time when political parties are often scrutinized for their consistency in public statements and their alignment with party ideology, especially concerning opposition to major national parties.

Raghav Chadha, a prominent young leader within the AAP, has been a vocal participant in parliamentary debates and a frequent presence in national political discourse. His perceived change in tone, as alleged by the party, has drawn attention to the internal dynamics and ideological coherence of the Aam Aadmi Party. The replacement in the Rajya Sabha leadership position is a significant indicator of the party’s assessment of its parliamentary representation and its leaders’ adherence to the party line. The AAP’s strategy often involves a strong stance against the BJP, and any deviation, real or perceived, can lead to internal friction and public scrutiny.

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls, mentioned in the context of Chadha’s alleged reluctance to raise issues, is a process that involves updating electoral rolls to ensure accuracy and inclusion. Opposition parties often closely monitor such processes for potential irregularities or partisan manipulation. Chadha’s alleged hesitation to engage on this issue, as claimed by the AAP, forms a part of their broader narrative about his perceived softening stance towards the BJP.

Chadha’s defence, which points to his consistent engagement with people’s issues over his tenure, offers a counter-narrative. It suggests that his actions are driven by a genuine concern for public welfare rather than political expediency or fear. The public nature of this disagreement, playing out on social media and through official statements, underscores the heightened political temperatures and the intense scrutiny faced by prominent political figures in India. The continued exchange between Chadha and the party is likely to be closely watched for further developments and potential implications for the AAP’s internal cohesion and its public image.
