Jammu and Kashmir Minister Warns Corrupt Officials of Strict Action

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Health and Education, Sakina Itoo, has issued a stern warning against corrupt practices, vowing to take decisive action against any government official found accepting bribes. The minister emphasized a policy of zero tolerance towards corruption within the Union Territory.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that this declaration follows closely on the heels of a senior education officer in Baramulla district being attached by the administration following multiple complaints of alleged corruption.

Speaking on the sidelines of a function held at the Government Degree College for Women in Srinagar, Minister Itoo stated, “If there is any information against any officer, especially for bribery, action will be taken. That officer will not be left like this.” The minister assured that the administration would not shield individuals involved in corrupt dealings.

Minister Itoo highlighted the commitment of the National Conference government, led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at the time of the report, to upholding transparency in governance. She affirmed that every complaint received regarding official misconduct would be thoroughly investigated and acted upon.

Addressing potential criticism regarding the government’s disciplinary actions, Minister Itoo questioned the inconsistent stances of detractors. She remarked, “First you say work is not happening. Then when work is happening, when action is happening, you are not happy. Then you say, why did it happen? What do you want?” This sentiment underscored the challenges faced by authorities in balancing public expectations for both development and accountability.

The minister reiterated the administration’s unwavering resolve to deal with any officer facing bribery allegations, reinforcing that no one would be protected from due process. The government’s stance signals an intent to curb corruption and promote ethical conduct within public service across Jammu and Kashmir.
