Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Saturday that India will represent the aspirations of the Global South at the upcoming G7 Summit, in addition to articulating its own interests. This commitment comes as India participates in the summit for the eighth consecutive time, reflecting its growing international standing and the trust placed in it by global partners.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that Prime Minister Modi’s remarks were made in his departure statement ahead of a week-long visit to France and Slovakia. During this tour, he is scheduled to attend the G7 Summit, engage in bilateral talks, and participate in significant innovation-focused events.
The Prime Minister emphasized that India’s presence at the G7 signifies more than just its own participation; it represents a broader mandate to voice the concerns and ambitions of developing nations. “At the G7, India will not only speak for itself, but it will also give voice to the aspirations of the Global South,” he said, highlighting India’s role as a leading voice for a significant portion of the world’s population.
The G7 Summit is scheduled to take place in Evian, France, on June 16 and 17. Prime Minister Modi expressed confidence that his engagements in France and the Slovak Republic will strengthen India’s ties with Europe and the G7, underscoring the nation’s dedication to expanding its partnerships across the continent and beyond.
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi is set to inaugurate ‘Bharat Innovates’ alongside French President Emmanuel Macron in Nice on June 14. This event, coinciding with the India-France Year of Innovation, aims to connect Indian startups with global investors and bolster innovations emerging from India’s higher education sector. This initiative is expected to act as a significant catalyst for technological advancement and entrepreneurial growth.
Following his engagements in France, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Slovakia for a state visit from June 14-15. This visit marks a historic moment, being the first by an Indian prime minister to Slovakia since its independence in 1993. He is slated to hold discussions with Slovak President Peter Pellegrini and Prime Minister Robert Fico in Bratislava, focusing on enhancing bilateral relations and exploring avenues for increased cooperation. The Prime Minister also plans to interact with business leaders from Slovakia, seeking to foster economic ties.
The visit to Slovakia is anticipated to further energize India’s Strategic Partnership with the European Union, with Slovakia being recognized as an important member. This engagement is expected to build upon the momentum generated by the ongoing India-EU Free Trade Agreement negotiations.
Concluding his trip, Prime Minister Modi will attend VivaTech 2026 in Paris on June 18, alongside President Macron. VivaTech is recognized as Europe’s premier gathering for technology and innovation. India’s participation will be marked by its largest national pavilion to date, symbolizing the substantial potential for collaboration between Indian and European innovation ecosystems. The Prime Minister also expressed eagerness to meet with the vibrant Indian community in Paris, viewing them as a vital link between India and France.
