Panic gripped the Rattan Nagar locality of Jalandhar early Wednesday morning as firing erupted between members of two rival groups, injuring one person. The incident, which occurred around 5:40 am, saw over 25 rounds discharged, creating a tense atmosphere in the area.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that a resident of Arya Nagar, identified as Rahul, sustained a gunshot wound to his stomach during the exchange of fire. He was immediately admitted to a private hospital, where his condition is reported to be stable.
Preliminary reports indicate that one of the individuals involved arrived at the scene in a car dressed in the attire of a nihang shortly before the firing commenced. Responding swiftly to the escalating situation, police forces arrived at the locality and initiated an immediate investigation. Authorities are currently examining CCTV footage from the surrounding areas and have recorded the injured victim’s statement at the hospital.
The Station House Officer (SHO), Jai Inder, stated that the motive behind the violent encounter is under thorough investigation and further details are expected to emerge as the inquiry progresses. While official confirmation from the police is pending, unconfirmed reports suggest that the firing may stem from an ongoing rivalry between the two factions.
Sources privy to the investigation have indicated that Rahul might have been targeted as a consequence of the 2023 murder of an individual known as Satta, which took place at the Maqsudan Sabzi Mandi. The police have not yet disclosed any arrests made in connection with the incident and are pursuing multiple lines of inquiry to ascertain all possible angles.
