A 33-year-old daily wager sustained a gunshot wound to his shoulder after masked individuals opened fire during a dispute between two groups outside a hair salon in Bhaini Gujjran village, near Sidhwan Bet police station, on Saturday night.
The Chenab Times has learned that the injured individual, identified as Jaj Singh, a resident of the same village, was at the salon for a haircut when he encountered two groups engaged in a heated altercation involving verbal abuse and a physical scuffle. Attempting to avoid the escalating confrontation, he stepped out of the shop.
According to Singh’s account, one of the youths involved in the quarrel abruptly produced a pistol and discharged two rounds. One of these bullets struck Singh in the right shoulder, causing him to fall to the ground bleeding. The assailants, who had concealed their faces with cloth, fled the scene while brandishing their weapons, causing panic among onlookers near the bus stand.
Following the incident, villagers promptly transported the wounded man to the government hospital in Sidhwan Bet for initial medical attention. Given the severity of his condition, he was subsequently referred to the Civil Hospital in Ludhiana. Medical professionals at Ludhiana Civil Hospital, observing his critical state, made the decision to transfer him to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI) in Chandigarh for advanced care.
The victim is currently in critical condition and is receiving treatment. The Sidhwan Bet police have initiated a comprehensive investigation into the incident to identify and apprehend the individuals responsible for the firing.
