Ajay Kumar Yadav, a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the Himachal Pradesh cadre, has been appointed as Additional Director General (ADG) in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The appointment, made on deputation against an existing vacancy, positions the 1996 batch officer in a significant leadership role within the central armed police force.
Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that the Union Home Ministry formally communicated this appointment through a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary of Himachal Pradesh on November 6. The missive specified that Yadav would serve as ADG at Level-15 of the pay matrix in the CRPF. His tenure is set to commence from the date he assumes charge of his new responsibilities and will continue until September 30, 2030, which marks his date of superannuation, or until further orders are issued, whichever occurs earlier.
The letter from the Union Home Ministry emphasized the urgency of Yadav’s transition, requesting that Shri Ajay Kumar Yadav, IPS(HP:1996), be relieved from his current duties immediately. This action is intended to facilitate his prompt assumption of the new assignment at the Centre. The appointment underscores the practice of cadre officers being deputed to central government roles, contributing their expertise to national security and law enforcement agencies.
The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is the primary internal security force of India, responsible for maintaining law and order, combating militancy, and supporting other security forces in various challenging environments across the country. As ADG, Ajay Kumar Yadav will oversee significant operational and administrative functions within the vast organization. His prior experience within the Himachal Pradesh police service would provide a foundation for his new responsibilities, though the scale and scope of operations at the central level present distinct challenges and opportunities.
The process of deputation for IPS officers to central organizations like the CRPF is governed by specific rules and guidelines aimed at leveraging the skills and experience of officers across different states. This exchange of personnel is viewed as beneficial for both the central government, which gains access to a diverse pool of talent, and the state cadres, whose officers gain exposure to broader operational and policy frameworks. The appointment also reflects the ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership within central paramilitary forces.
Ajay Kumar Yadav’s career trajectory, culminating in this appointment as ADG in the CRPF, signifies a notable achievement for an officer from the Himachal Pradesh cadre. The responsibilities associated with such a senior position in a force as critical as the CRPF are substantial, involving strategic planning, force management, and ensuring the effective deployment of personnel in sensitive areas. His role will be crucial in the ongoing efforts to maintain internal security and uphold the rule of law across India.
