The Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Doda, Mehraj Malik, on Thursday said he met Jammu and Kashmir Education Minister Sakina Itoo to press for improved healthcare facilities in Doda district, including the deployment of more doctors and the provision of additional ambulances.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, Malik said the meeting focused on strengthening healthcare services in different hospitals across Doda district. In a public statement, the MLA said he requested the minister to facilitate the posting of doctors where vacancies exist and to provide new ambulances to improve emergency medical services in the region.
Malik stated that the Education Minister assured him of the government’s full support and said the issues raised during the meeting would be resolved at the earliest. The minister has not issued a separate public statement detailing the discussions or announcing any specific timeline for implementing the requests.
Doda district, located in the Chenab Valley of Jammu and Kashmir, has long faced challenges related to healthcare infrastructure, particularly in remote and mountainous areas where access to medical facilities can be difficult. The availability of doctors and emergency transport has remained a recurring concern for residents, especially during medical emergencies and adverse weather conditions.
The meeting comes days after Malik raised several development-related issues with the Jammu and Kashmir government, including demands aimed at improving public services in his constituency.
