The house of Mehboob Iqbal was searched after a special judge issued a search warrant.
A search warrant has been issued against many other former IAS officers, according to the Kashmir News Observer (KNO), and raids are taking place across Jammu and Kashmir.
Mehboob Iqbal was one of Jammu and Kashmir’s most prominent bureaucrats, rising to the position of Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir.
Along with other prominent bureaucrats, he was named as a suspect in the Gulmarg land scam.
He previously joined the People Democratic Party (PDP) and ran for assembly in the Bhaderwah constituency, but lost.
During the BJP-PDP government, he was also named Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) and rose through the ranks of the PDP to become General Secretary.
Iqbal resigned from the PDP’s primary membership and joined the National Conference after the PDP-BJP friendship ended in 2018. (NC).
