Shibnote Thathri—the adventurous rafting point of J&K’s mighty river Chenab

Majority of the tourist love adventures during their journey. These adventures includes rafting, paragliding, and more. The Shibnote area of Premnagar in the Thathri sub district of Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district has become an attractive rafting point for those who love adventurous sports.

The mighty Chenab river was seen as a life-threatening river because of its unknown depth in Doda district. The perspective changed for many people who participated in the White Water Rafting Festival at Shibnote Premnagar, which has been organised by the District Administration Doda every year for the past three years. People now love the Chenab because they no longer fear it after rafting on it.

“When we experienced the rafting and the river water touched us, we didn’t fear it but loved it because it was the hug of love of this water [Chenab river],” said Deputy Commissioner Doda Vishesh Paul Mahajan while talking to a Chenab Times correspondent after experiencing rafting on the river Chenab at Shibnote Premnagar.

The rafting point at Shibnote is not a risky point; it have four grade rapids and it is most enjoyable at 4 kilometres strech, as per experts working with JK Adventures Jammu and Xtreme Adventures.

“This location for rafting has five rapids and the three main rapids have been named as The Sagar’s Surprise, JK’s Heaven, and The Caliper,” said Mr. Sachin Singh Sambyal, founder of JK Adventures Jammu. The Sagar’s Surprise name was given on then Deputy Commissioner Doda Dr Sagar D Doiphode and The Caliper name was given on the name of Sub Divisional Magistrate Thathri Athar Amin Zargar.

He went on to say that while the recce on the Chenab river had been done numerous times since 1980, the first commercial ride for the public was done by JK Adventures in 2021, when the district administration Doda was led by then deputy commissioner Dr Sagar D. Doiphode. “The initiative’s credit also goes to SDM Thathri Athar Amin Zargar,” he added.
