Kishtwar — In response to the recent tragic bus accident in Doda district that claimed 39 lives on November 15, the Kishtwar Police, under the leadership of SSP Kishtwar Khalil Poswal-JKPS, launched a special drive today to address the rampant issue of overloading in passenger vehicles.
As part of this proactive initiative, the Kishtwar Police registered two FIRs against violators, resulting in the arrest of two individuals directly responsible for compromising the safety of commuters. Additionally, 14 vehicles found exceeding prescribed load limits were seized, marking a clear stance on enforcing load regulations.
The drive, aimed at ensuring road safety, led to the issuance of 227 traffic challans for various violations, underlining the seriousness of the offenses and their potential to jeopardize lives on the road.
SSP Kishtwar Khalil Poswal-JKPS issued a stern warning to all vehicle operators in the district, emphasizing a zero-tolerance approach towards overloading. He highlighted the significant role that traffic violations play in contributing to fatal road accidents, resulting in tragic loss of lives.
Expressing concern over underage driving, SSP Kishtwar urged parents to prevent their underage children from operating scooters, motorcycles, and other vehicles. The crackdown on overloading is part of a broader effort to instill a sense of responsibility among road users and encourage strict adherence to traffic rules.
In a bid to involve the community, SSP Kishtwar Khalil Poswal-JKPS appealed to passengers to document instances of overloaded vehicles by making short videos and forwarding them to the designated number: 9906154100. Informants will be duly rewarded, and their identities will be kept confidential.
