CODE OF ETHICS

The Chenab Times is guided by a commitment to public-interest journalism. This Code of Ethics sets out the core principles that inform our editorial judgment, reporting practices, and professional conduct.

1. Truth and Accuracy

We pursue facts rigorously and present them with clarity and context.
Accuracy is not negotiable, and speed or platform pressure does not justify error. Where facts are uncertain or evolving, we state this openly.

2. Fairness and Balance

We seek to represent issues and individuals fairly.
Those affected by allegations or criticism are given a reasonable opportunity to respond. We avoid distortion, selective framing, or omission that could mislead readers.

3. Independence

Our journalism is independent of political, commercial, and ideological influence.
We do not accept inducements, favors, or payments that could compromise editorial judgment. Editorial decisions are made solely in the public interest.

4. Transparency and Accountability

We are accountable to our readers.
Errors are corrected promptly and transparently. Editorial choices, sourcing limits, or verification challenges are explained when necessary to maintain trust.

5. Responsibility and Harm Minimisation

We recognise that journalism can have real-world consequences.
We report with sensitivity, particularly when covering vulnerable individuals, conflict, tragedy, or private citizens. Public interest guides decisions about what to publish.

6. Respect for Sources and Audiences

We identify sources wherever possible and use anonymity only when justified by genuine risk.
We respect the dignity, diversity, and intelligence of our audiences across regions, languages, and backgrounds.

7. Clear Separation of Content Types

News, analysis, opinion, and sponsored or promotional material (where applicable) are clearly distinguished. Readers should always understand what they are reading and why it is presented.

8. Integrity of Visual and Digital Content

Images, video, data, and graphics must not be manipulated in ways that misrepresent reality.
Simulations, illustrations, or AI-generated visuals are clearly labelled where used.

9. Professional Conduct

All contributors and staff are expected to act in a manner that upholds the credibility of The Chenab Times, both in their reporting and in public-facing conduct.
