Eid al-Fitr, the festival marking the end of Ramadan, will be celebrated in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, April 10, announced Grand Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam on Tuesday.
The announcement follows confirmed sightings of the Shawwal crescent moon in various parts of the region, including Chenab Valley and Leh.
“Enough evidences were received from various parts of J&K about sighting of the crescent,” Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam told media outlets, as per The Chenab Times.
Eid al-Fitr is traditionally declared after religious leaders confirm the sighting of the new moon. A consultative committee led by the Grand Mufti made the official announcement after reviewing reports.
Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam extended Eid greetings to the Muslim community, particularly those in Jammu and Kashmir. “May this auspicious occasion bring with it a lot of joy, happiness, peace and prosperity to all of us,” he said.
The announcement by Jamia Masjid Kishtwar confirming Eid celebrations for tomorrow coincides with the Grand Mufti’s declaration.
