Two foreign militants affiliated with Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) were killed while one of their associate hailing from South Kashmir’s Shopian district was captured alive during an encounter at Poshana village of Poonch district.

Encounter broke out on Sunday afternoon during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) launched by Army, Police and CRPF in the areas along the Mughal Road in Poonch district.

Officials told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that operation was launched by forces in Poshana and Chatta Pani villages along Mughal Road after inputs about presence of militants in the area.

They said the search teams zeroed in on some seasonal houses of nomads located about one hundred meters near the Mughal Road between Poshana and Chatta Pani.

“Senior Army and police officers leading the operation made repeated appeals to militants for surrender but they fired upon them after which encounter broke out in which two LeT militants from Pakistan identified as Sajid and Bilal were killed while their bodies have been recovered from the encounter site,” officials said.

They added that one of the militant associate hailing from Shopian district attempted to escape from the encounter site but was arrested by Police and Army.

“Two militants were killed and one of their associate has been arrested,” Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Poonch Ramesh Angral said.

He further informed that two AK rifles, six magazines, 300 bullets, one UBGL, five hand grenade, 300 grams of RDX, two mobile phones and one Satellite phone have been recovered from the slain militants.
