Ababeel volunteers of Kishtwar unit arrested in Padder for providing relief material to poor; FIR lodged, Ambulance seized

Yesterday, a shameful act was carried out by the Padder Administration against the Ababeel volunteers from Kishtwar. They were there to distribute relief material including food kits to the needy and the poor of the Padder area amidst the lockdown.

As per the reports FIR has been lodged against 8 volunteers of the Abebeel unit Kishtwar, and Ababeel ambulance also has been seized by Padder Magistrate.

Most people of the Padder area are facing shortage of food material and other things and have nothing to fill their stomach amidst the on going lockdown. When people contacted the Ababeel and asked them to reach the needy of the area, the volunteers immediately rushed into action and carried the food kits to the area and distributed among the people there, while on the other hand the Padder Administration itself has failed to reach to the distressed and needy people of the area.

In a statement, Asif Iqbal Naik Senior Journalist Early Times wrote, “Padder Shame : Isn’t the behaviour of Padder Magistrate and police a shameful— they register an FIR against NGO and seized the Ambulance of ABABEEL carrying relief material for poor — Did Magistrate Padder Varun Jeet Singh knows that people in his area had no food at home to cook while he is enjoying everything under the clot of being a magistrate— it is his responsibility to provide food to these needy people and only when he fails — NGO ABABEEL step in and reach their with food kits— if they can distribute relief hassle free in Kishtwar and its adjoining areas then why not in SDM Padder’s jurisdiction— is it mean who are at Kishtwar HQ are blind and didn’t see anything— shameful— let’s us come out of this turmoil— One should not forget that bigotry will have to face the wrath of Almighty Allah — Like we are facing today in the form of COVID 19 — Only providing Atta & Rice to people at Government depots is not enough— people required other stuff as well to cook food —”. The statement was published on his official facebook.

After a telephonic conversation with one of the volunteers of the Ababeel in Kishtwar, the Chenab Times correspondent reported that the Padder Administration harassed the volunteers for not taking the permission of the SDM Padder to distribute food items among people there.

In this lockdown 2.0, where the administration itself failed to reach the needy and the poor, and instead of encouraging the works done by some NGOs and Charitable Trusts like the Ababeel, who are always there to help anyone in need, they have started harassing these volunteers and stop them to reach to those in distress and need. It appears like the administration has no real concern if the people die of starvation while they’re being protected from coronavirus disease.
