District Legal Services Authority Bhaderwah organised an awareness programme on Rights of Senior Citizens and free legal aid services in the premises of Social welfare department Bhaderwah, on the direction of Chairman DLSA ( Pr. District and Sessions Judge) Bhaderwah Sh.Ashok Kumar Shavan and in the supervision of Secretary DLSA Bhaderwah, Susheel Singh. Speaking on the occasion resource person , Advocate Mohd Majid Malik threw light on the constitutional protection under article 41 and 46 to ageing persons and also explained the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Bill, 2007 and right of maintenance under section 125 Cr.P.C. He also informed that according to Section 88 B , 88 D and 88 DDB of income tax there are discounts in tax to the elderly persons . Advocate Mohd. Majid Malik also awared participants about the Legal Services Authorities Act 1987 and said under said Act section 12 ,free legal aid is for the weaker sections of the society and under article 39 A of the constitution of India it is the duty of the state to see the legal system promotes justice on the basis of equal opportunity for all citizens . It may arrange free legal aid to those who can not access justice . He also informed that free legal aid is also provided in criminal matters for poor and marginalized people who cannot afford the services of a lawyer for the conduct of a case or a legal proceedings in any court . Resource person also said the constitutional duty to provide legal aid which arise from the time when accused is produced before the magistrate for the first time and continues whenever he is produced for remand .Senior Citizens ,Dawinder Kumar , Gulnaz Begum , Sudershana Devi , Beena Devi , Anu Radha , Hans Raj , Nazma and Aquib Rangraz were also present on the occasion .
