12 Rabi-ul-Awwal celebrated as ‘Compassion Day’ in Doda, Ramban districts

12 Rabi-ul-Awwal (Islamic Date) is considered as one of the important dates among muslims because the Last Prophet in Islam, Muhammad (PBUH) is believed to be born on this day and it is widely celebrated as 3rd Eid of the year i.e Eid Miladunnabi in Islam. Meanwhile, today an idea was emerged in which people celebrated 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal as ‘Compassion Day’. The glimpses of ‘Compassion Day’ were seen in Kastigarh village of Doda district, District Hospital Ramban and some other places in both districts.

The day having paramount importance because Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) is believed as messenger of peace, brotherhood for all human beings. The history of Muhammad (PBUH) knows as ‘Seerat’ (Biography) among Muslims shows the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). His behaviour with Muslim and non-Muslim neighbours and helping needy, poor and orphans.

According to details available with Chenab Times, people belonging to various communities including non-Muslims participated on this occasion of Compassion Day to strengthen the brotherhood in the region. The main activities performed were plantation of trees, distribution of water, juices etc to passengers, cleanliness drive and distribution of literature among bibliophiles.

In Kastigarh, JK Survival Movement Organization’s supreme Swarn Veer Jaral also participated in various activities on this occasion and gave a message of communal harmony with assurance of endorsement of such initiatives in future.

In Ramban, Dr. Farhana Zargar and Dr. Masood Iqbal from WORK (World Organization of Religious Knowledge) in collaboration with Neeraj Singh Chib from Nation First team along with other members from both organizations organised a “Feed the Hungry” stall in District Hospital Ramban. However, it was already announced on Chenab Times on Thursday about the breakfast on Compassion Day i.e Friday.

The motivation for commemorating 12th of Rabiul Awwal as Prophet’s Birth Day (believed by a large majority) and the Day of Demise (undisputed) as ‘Compassion Day’ arose from the fact that a large number of Non-Muslim brethren have grave misunderstanding and misinformation about him while he was a real depiction of Compassion, true to the saying of the Holy Qur’an:

“And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds.” (Qur’an 21:107)

His mercy and compassion was not limited to his followers but all creatures including animals.

What will the World do on Compassion Day:

It will be a day when all the people of the world will be inspired to perform at least one deed of compassion, sympathy, mercy, welfare, love or care for the living beings in his/her own way either collectively or individually. Imagine the whole world enacting compassion all around! That is what the world needs.

The Benefits of Compassion Day:

Once People, the world over, realize that their tribute to the prophet should translate into emulating Prophet Muhammad in being foremost in doing deeds of mercy and compassion, following benefits are sure to accrue:

  1. There would be greater involvement of people in the welfare of the society.
  2. General upliftment of the society will occur.
  3. Peace will prevail all around as amity between all religious, ethnic and other communities will grow.
  4. People from different faith will join hands in the works of charity and goodwill promoting peace and brotherhood on Compassion Day. What the Dialogues by their leaders could not achieve, will be accomplished at the grass root level.
  5. Muslims will be able to offer their sincerest devotion towards the Prophet of Compassion – Prophet Muhammad by finally associating his name with Love, Compassion, and Mercy, a right which belongs to him.
  6. To be one of those fortunate ones whose activities will be presented to and witnessed by the beloved Prophet.
