There was also a time when, in such a terrible snowfall, a common man was afraid to get out of his house, the officials of the power department risked their lives to stay in the forests and mountains in the dark nights. They would have succeeded in restoring the power supply in the middle of the night by climbing the poles and connecting the power cables. Now this is also the time that takes several days to restore the power supply even in the full sunny day. The only reason is that, then people used to raise their voices and today they considered it safe to remain silent. Thus, in Doda and Kishtwar districts, several hours of announced and unannounced power cuts are common, but for a few weeks now, these cuts have broken all previous records. The exams are in full swing and the students who have suffered irreparable damage from the Corona virus outbreak wanted to do some preparation for the exams but there is no electricity. And the electricity don’t arrive until the innocent students fall asleep. When they wake up in the morning, they don’t know that whether there was electricity or not. Who doesn’t believe that electricity has become an important human need in the present times and without it life becomes difficult. From running a system of offices, factories, educational institutions, hospitals, etc. till the small tasks, the electricity is required. Even in rural areas, there are many people whose businesses depend on electricity and without electricity, these people’s work suffers. The greatest benefit of electricity for the common people is that it saves them from the darkness of night and man does not have to resort to ancient methods to get light. Everyone knows that the greatest need for electricity is from evening till ten o’clock at night and from dawn till sunrise. But in Doda district at that time the time was fixed for normal power cut. While unannounced deductions are at peak at that time. The people are very upset with this deduction—made at the wrong time and they are very angry with the department. In this regard, several dignitaries of Bhalessa said that the department of electricity, whose job was to provide facilities to the people, has become a source of trouble. They said that people pay the electricity rent but their rent is useless and they do not get any benefit from electricity. They say that this power cut which has been going on from many months is causing irreparable loss to the students and now at the time of exams, they are very upset. Poor parents in rural areas cannot afford any significant lighting for their children, that is why their children cannot perform well in exams and thus lag far behind in today’s competitive world. They requested the district administration and senior officials of the power department to ensure at least 18 hours of power supply out of 24 hours so that the people get some relief.
