Authorities have initiated a huge firefighting effort in the Gorla forest region of Ghordi block in Udhampur district, enlisting the help of Indian Air Force choppers to put out the fires.

On Sunday evening, a fire broke out in the Gorla woodland area, which is home to a variety of rare Peacock species, according to locals.
“Firefighting operations are being carried out by field agencies, but due to dense forest cover, it is proving difficult for them.” Locals praised deputy commissioner Indu Kanwal Chib’s efforts, saying, “Now Indian Air Force choppers have been on the job since dawn.”
When called, Udhampur deputy commissioner Indu Kanwal Chib confirmed that the IAF had sent their choppers in the firefighting operation at her request.
