Fierce gunfight underway at Srinagar’s Parimpora

Three CRPF personnel were injured, including the Asst Commandant and SI; cordon layers were tightened due to the darkness

Officials said three Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were injured in an ongoing encounter between forces and militants in the Maloora area of Parimpora on Srinagar’s outskirts, according to officials.

Three CRPF personnel, including two officers, were injured, according to official sources who told the news agency Kashmir News Observer. They were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

According to them, Assistant Commander is no longer in danger, but it is unknown whether two other people who were injured, including a SI and another CRPF member, were hit by bullets.

The fight is still going on, and it could end tomorrow morning in the dark. “A militant who has yet to be identified has been killed. The operation in the area is currently underway. Intermittent firing is taking place. Due to darkness, the operation has been halted. More forces have arrived on the scene, and the cordon layers have been tightened even more to prevent militants hiding in the area from fleeing,” they said.

After police acting on a specific lead about the presence of militants in a house at Maloora, Parimpora laid a siege in the area and came under heavy fire when the suspected spot was zeroed in, an earlier encounter broke out between security forces and militants in the afternoon.

“Police and CRPF Quick Reaction Teams are conducting the operation because the area is in Srinagar,” the official said. When asked if any CRPF men were injured during the encounter, he stated that two CRPF men were injured.

Importantly, police arrested top Lashkar commander Abrar Naveed from the Parimpora area just hours before the clash. The arrest of Abrar was hailed as a “big success” by Kashmir police chief Vijay Kumar. Abrar was riding in an alto car when he was stopped in Parimpora. He was also arrested in a short video clip that went viral on social media.
