Kashmir: Gulmarg closed for local day-picnickers on weekends

Baramulla Admin says vaccinated persons or those having Covid negative certificate can enter tourist destination

On Thursday, the district administration of Baramulla decided to prohibit local day-picnickers from visiting the world-famous ski resort of Gulmarg on weekends.

District Magistrate Baramulla, Bhupinder Kumar, said in an order, according to news agency Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that only vaccinated people or those with a negative Covid certificate will be allowed to enter the tourist destination.

“In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 disease at the tourist destination of Gulmarg, I, Bhupinder Kumar, District Magistrate Baramulla, in my capacity as Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority, Baramulla, hereby order that no local day-picnickers be allowed to visit the area.

“Only persons who have been vaccinated or who have a Negative Test Report of RAT/RTPCR conducted within 48 hours will be allowed to enter tourist destination Gulmarg,” it added.

“On weekend days, only tourists who have pre-booked hotels, guest houses, huts, and other accommodations will be permitted” (Saturday & Sunday). “Persons found roaming without masks shall be fined Rs 1000/- by enforcement squads constituted pursuant to Order No: DMB/PS/COVID-19/2021/1079-93, dated: 09-07-2021,” the order continues.

Meanwhile, SDM Gulmarg and SDPO Tangmarg have been ordered to ensure that this order is enforced immediately.
