The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) condemned targeted surveillance of its chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, as well as senior executive members Bilal Ghani Lone and Masroor Abbas Ansari, on Friday.
According to the expose, the APHC also condemned the hacking of phones of journalists, activists, businessmen, and others in J&K in a statement to the Kashmir-based news agency Kashmir News Observer.
According to an APHC spokesman, hacking into people’s phones for the purpose of surveillance is a wilful and direct violation of the universally recognised fundamental right to privacy, which is a basic human right, and those responsible should be prosecuted.
“It recognises that basic human rights of an entire population remain suspended in J&K, and the state’s writ rules with a heavy hand, so expecting redress of this issue – especially from those who are indulging in it – is very unlikely,” it said.
The APHC’s chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has been held in house detention by the government for the past two years without explanation. It went on to say that all of his basic human rights have already been violated.
