‘Don’t want Pondicherry, Delhi like Govt in J&K’
Senior congressman and former J&K chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad appealed to Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday to get the bill for Jammu and Kashmir’s Statehood passed in parliament in the next three days.
According to the Kashmir-based news agency Kashmir News Observer, Azad remarked during an event at the party headquarters in Srinagar that they don’t want governments like Pondicherry and Delhi in Jammu and Kashmir.
“We don’t want the Lieutenant Governor in charge of the affairs of the state. It’s a border state, and LG can’t see the law and order situation,” Azad explained, adding that only the local chief minister has that authority.
“During the recent All Party Meeting with the Prime Minister in New Delhi, we made five demands. Prior to the elections, we applied for statehood,” Azad stated.
