Kashmir’s Hurriyat Leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani passes away

Syed Ali Shah Geelani passed away at 10:30 pm at his Srinagar residence.

Geelani was a stalwart leader of the Hurriyat Conference and had been unwell for some time.

He was previously a member of the Jamaat-e-Islami Kashmir, but later founded Tehreek-e-Hurriyat. He has served as the chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, a conglomerate of pro-resistance parties in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Saddened by the news of Geelani sahab’s passing away. We may not have agreed on most things but I respect him for his steadfastness and standing by his beliefs. May Allah Ta’aala grant him jannat and condolences to his family and well wishers,” Mehbooba said on Twitter.
