According to a White House official, US Vice President Kamala Harris will meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the White House on Thursday to “reinforce” the strategic partnership between the two countries. They will discuss a variety of issues, including democracy, human rights, and climate change.

“This meeting will follow up on their phone call on June 3 about the COVID answer. “Democracy, human rights, climate change, and global health challenges will be discussed,” the official told PTI.

“On Thursday, Vice President Biden will meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to strengthen the strategic alliance between the two countries,” a White House official said on condition of anonymity.

According to the official, Ms Harris plans to continue working to achieve the Biden-Harris Administration’s programme to rebuild “our alliances and restore America’s global leadership” while US President Joe Biden delivers his first speech to the United Nations General Assembly today.

“The Vice President will conduct a session on the response to the COVID-19 epidemic at the worldwide summit convened by President Biden and hold four bilateral talks with leaders from around the world,” the official added.

Ms Harris will meet with UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson later in the day to express gratitude for the two countries’ long-standing friendship and shared principles.

According to the official, she would also reiterate the Biden administration’s goal of extending cooperation with the United Kingdom on a variety of problems, including geopolitical dangers, global health difficulties, and climate change.

Ms Harris will conduct a session on Wednesday aimed at better preparing for and preventing future pandemics, according to a White House official.

She proposed a global health security fund this spring to address severe funding shortages in pandemic preparedness. Governments, corporate sector donors, development banks, and foundations would be able to pool money to assist disease surveillance, biosafety and biosecurity, workforce training, and immunisation programmes through this fund.

“The Vice President will reveal progress on this project in her remarks on Wednesday,” the person said.

Ms Harris will meet with President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia on Wednesday and President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana on Thursday.

“These meetings are intended to deepen partnerships in Africa and promote good governance, shared prosperity, and security among our nations,” according to the official, who also stated that Ms Harris will discuss the importance of democratic institutions, global health security, upholding universal rights, equitable economic growth, and expanded trade that benefits both the US and Africa.

“The Vice President’s schedule this week reflects her role as the President’s trusted partner and expands on her work to achieve the Administration’s global agenda,” a White House official said.

She has visited with or talked with over thirty world leaders since assuming office, supporting US interests on matters ranging from global health to climate change to cyber dangers, according to the official.

Ms. Harris has spoken out on the urgent need to strengthen our democracies in order to properly respond collectively to the threats of the day. According to a White House official, she travelled to Singapore and Vietnam last month to emphasise American ties and advance the country’s strategic and economic interests in the area.
