Erdoğan Again Makes Reference To Kashmir In UN General Assembly

In his presentation to international leaders at the high-level UN General Assembly session, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan brought up the topic of Kashmir once more.

Erdogan made a reference to Jammu and Kashmir in his pre-recorded video statement to the General Debate last year as well.

At the time, India called it “absolutely unacceptable,” saying Turkey needed to learn to respect the sovereignty of other nations and think more thoroughly on its own policies.

Erdogan in his address to the General Debate on Tuesday said: “We maintain our stance in favour of solving the ongoing problem in Kashmir for 74 years, through dialogue between the parties and within the framework of relevant United Nations resolutions.”

In his address to the high-level General Debate, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, a strong supporter of Pakistan, repeatedly brought up the topic of Kashmir.

During his visit to Pakistan last year, he also brought up the Kashmir problem.

Erdogan’s remarks, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) remarked at the time, indicated neither a comprehension of history nor the conduct of diplomacy, and that they would have a significant impact on India’s ties with Turkey.

It stated that India rejects Turkey’s repeated attempts to legitimise Pakistan’s “blatant” cross-border terrorism.

During his speech on Tuesday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also mentioned China’s minority Muslim Uyghurs in Xinjiang and Myanmar’s Rohingya.

“Within China’s territorial integrity perspective,” Erdogan stated, “we do consider that greater efforts need to be exhibited regarding the safeguarding of the Muslim Uyghur Turks’ basic rights.”

The United States, the European Union, and a number of other countries have accused China of genocide against the Uyghurs in resource-rich Xinjiang, and have urged for an international investigation by human rights organisations.

“We also support ensuring the safe, voluntary, and dignified return of Rohingya Muslims to their motherland, who are currently languishing in camps in Bangladesh and Myanmar,” Erdogan stated.
