Gandhi Jayanti is an event celebrated in India to mark the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi Ji. It is celebrated annually on 2nd October, and is one of the three national holidays of India. October 2nd is also, globally observed as an International Day of Non-Violence. To commemorate Gandhi Jayanti Govt Degree College, Kilhotran under the supervision of Principal Dr Javid Iqbal has planned to organize a series of events. To begin with the College today organized an online essay writing competition on the theme of “Relevance of Gandhian Philosophy of Ahimsa in Contemporary Times”. In the event students highlighted the relevance of Gandhian Philosophy in contemporary times and stressed how Gandhi Ji’s philosophy of Ahimsa is still an important non-violent tool in Modern Democracies. In the event Azhar Khan got the First Position while Waseem Ahmed and Saima Saleem secured 2nd and 3rd position respectively. Principal Dr Javid Iqbal appreciated all the participants and urged them to participate in the other events viz Cleanliness drive, Poster Making and Slogan writing Competition. The events will culminate on 2nd of October with the prize distribution ceremony.
