Devender Singh Rana today vowed to pursue the ‘Jammu Declaration,’ a political roadmap coming from Jammu, religiously and resolutely, describing the concept as critical to reclaiming the “beautiful spirit of inclusive Jammu and Kashmir.”
“Nothing will discourage me from achieving my goal, and I will work tirelessly to achieve it, even if it means jeopardising my political career,” Rana stated this morning as he addressed a big crowd from Nagrota block who had come to see him.
The ‘Jammu Declaration,’ according to the former MLA, is a step forward in respecting the desires and aspirations of all of Jammu and Kashmir’s regions and sub-regions, with none being discriminated against or controlled politically, socially, or economically.
“Everyone, regardless of location, religion, or caste, must have equal access to resources and participation in governance.” “Not only should fair play and justice be the bedrock of the political system, but the perception of one being appeased at the expense of the other due to politico-strategic expediencies should become a thing of the past,” he said, adding that the Jammu region has suffered greatly on all of these counts over the decades.
Rana expressed optimism that the ‘Jammu Declaration’ will eventually help to heal the rifts that have developed between the regions, diverse elements of society, and the rest of the country.
“The decades-long trust deficit must thus be healed in order to ensure harmony and unity among peoples, regions, and sub-regions in this area of the country,” he stated.
He claims that the narrative emanating from “secular Jammu” will kickstart the intra-regional and inter-religious dialogue that is necessary for unity and harmony.
“The engagement between regions, sub-regions, religious communities, and ethnic groupings must be holistic.” All of them have always been at the heart of the land of saints and sages. This glorious tradition must be resurrected, preserved, and strengthened in order to pass down to future generations the wonderful legacy of their forefathers, who made Jammu and Kashmir proud.
“To do so, we’ll need to work together to figure out where the fault lines came from and offer course correction procedures,” he added.
“The Jammu Declaration has captured the imagination of the people in general, as well as the intelligentsia, civil society, and the entire political class in particular, since it bears hope for the marginalised parts of society and neglected regions and sub-regions,” he said.
He stated that Jammu must play a key part in the success of the ‘Declaration,’ and that this will be a fitting contribution to the idea of J&K and India.
Rana asked the people of Jammu to be the flag-bearers of the inclusive Jammu and Kashmir narrative, which is at the heart of the ‘Jammu Declaration,’ because it does not reflect any individual’s agenda.
“It is a people’s agenda, created by people, for people in Jammu and Kashmir, who have suffered economically, politically, and psychologically over the years.” He declared that “the time has come to put an end to the era of uncertainty and usher in the era of peace, progress, and development.”
“By carrying the Jammu Declaration’s banner, we have nothing to lose and everything to gain by making J&K a better place to live and a true jewel in our great nation’s crown,” he insisted.
