According to the US-based publication The Hill, a group of Google and Amazon employees has asked their employers to terminate a contract with the Israeli government.
According to the report, over 300 Amazon employees and 100 Google employees sent an open letter to their respective organisations outlining their desire for Project Nimbus to be terminated. The employees signed the letter anonymously, and it was published in The Guardian.
Both Google and Amazon are providing cloud services to the Israeli military and government as part of the programme. The corporations signed a contract for $1.2 billion earlier this year. According to the magazine, the cloud services allow the Israeli military to collect data on Palestinians.
The workers said that the information will be used to “advance policies that Human Rights Watch claims are apartheid crimes.”
According to The Hill, the workers stated, “This contract was signed the same week that the Israeli military bombed Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, killing almost 250 people, including more than 60 children.”
“The technology our companies have contracted to create will make the Israeli military and government’s systemic discrimination and displacement of Palestinians even crueller and deadlier,” they added.
