Two more soldiers killed in area bordering Rajouri & Poonch

Massive operation going on in forest areas

Two army men, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), were killed in a gunfight with militants in the Bhata Dhurian region near Bhimber Gali, Mendhar sub division, bringing the total number of soldiers killed in the border district to seven this week.

Today’s clash comes just three days after the army lost five personnel, including a JCO, in a gunfight at Dera Ki Gali, a location close to where new clashes are taking place.

According to KNO, security forces conducted a cordon and search operation in Bhata Dhurian forest of Mendhar, which is near to the Dehra Ki Gali woodland ridge, on Thursday, in the backdrop of an anti-militancy operation in the Dehra Ki Gali forest area on the Rajouri-Poonch border.

“During searches, contact was formed between Army team and terrorists, resulting in a fierce exchange of fire,” officials stated, adding that one Army JCO and a soldier were injured and taken to a local hospital, where both died.

“An operation is underway in the region, and the entire area is cordoned off,” officials stated.

On the other hand, the anti-militancy operation initiated in the Dehra Ki Gali forest entered its fourth day on Thursday.

Five troops were killed in an exchange of fire with highly armed militants in a woodland region of Dera Ki Gali on the Poonch-Rajouri border on October 12, including a junior commissioned officer (JCO). The army’s massive search activities to find the group proceeded.

“The cordon was expanded, and troops were deployed to cover surrounding regions as well. On Thursday evening, new communication was made with the insurgents. “It’s still unclear if the group involved in the recent encounter was the same as the one that killed five soldiers or a different one,” defence sources added. “It would be evident whether it was the same group once the military were able to home in on and remove the militants.”

Meanwhile, sources claim that traffic on the Poonch-Rajouri route has been halted as a precaution.
