Alabama’s star wideout Williams was hurt on a big catch.

Jameson Williams, Alabama’s star wide receiver, suffered an apparent knee injury in the second quarter of the national title game and when he returned to the field during the third quarter he was wearing sweat pants and did not appear ready to play.

Williams caught a pass from quarterback Bryce Young but spun awkwardly before going to the ground. He immediately grabbed his left knee.

He was helped off the field and went into the medical tent on Alabama’s sideline. A few minutes later, he walked to the Alabama locker room under his own power.

Williams, who transferred to Alabama from Ohio State, had over 1,500 receiving yards this season and 15 touchdowns.

He had four catches for 65 yards before he exited the game.

Alabama Coach Nick Saban said at halftime that the injury would give other players a chance to shine at the end of the game.

At the start of the third quarter, ESPN sideline reporter Holly Rowe said trainers declined to give an update on Williams’s condition, and team officials in the press box did not immediately announce Williams’s status.
