Bhaderwah: On the occasion of National Voters Day, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Bhaderwah, organised an awareness and outreach programme by following all COVID-19 SOPs on the occasion of National Voters Day in the premises of the Social Welfare Office, Bhaderwah, under the direction and supervision of the Chairman District Legal Services Authority and Pr District and Sessions Judge Bhaderwah, Virender Singh Bhau, and Secretary DLSA (Sub Judge) Mudassir Farooq here today. Subash Kotwal was the chief guest, whereas Advocate Mohd Majid Malik was the resource person on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Resource Person Advocate Mohd Majid Malik said that from the year 2011 onwards, National Voters’ Day is being celebrated in India to mark the foundation day of the Election Commission of India. He said the main purpose of the National Voters’ Day celebration is to encourage, facilitate, and maximise enrolment, especially for new voters. As per Chenab Times, advocate Mohd Majid Malik also shed light on Articles 325 and 326 of the constitution, stating that no one should be excluded from the electoral roll on the basis of religion, race, caste, or sex, and that elections to the house of people and state legislative assemblies should be based on adult suffrage.He also informed us that after the sixty-first amendment of the constitution of India, the voting age for elections to the Lok Sabha and to the legislative assemblies of states was reduced from 21 years to 18.
At the same time, Advocate Mohd Majid Malik said that the right to vote is available in our country to almost everyone equally at 18 years of age, irrespective of their religion, gender, education or literacy, and said voting is a fundamental right of every citizen and it helps choose the leaders of tomorrow to contribute towards the country’s development and helps fort a better India. The resource person also shed light on qualifications to become eligible for voting and the rules and appealed to all participants to be responsible for voting, as it is not just our right but our duty to vote and all must fulfil them both. Later, free masks and sanitizers were also distributed among all participants, and they were also informed about COVID-19 precautionary measures issued by the health department.
