Delimitation: 200 BJP workers from Suchetgarh tender resignation

The J&K BJP suffered a major setback on Monday when over 200 of its workers tendered their resignation in protest of the proposed merger of Suchetgarh assembly constituency with RS Pura segment in Jammu district, despite harsh criticism of the submitted report of the delimitation commission by various political parties.

Tarsaim Singh, the chairperson of the Suchetgarh block development council (BDC), was among those who handed in their resignation letter to J&K BJP general secretary (organisation) Ashok Kaul. “The entire BJP unit in Suchetgarh has tendered resignation letters to Ashok Kaul,” he said, “including block presidents, shakti kendra incharges, morcha activists, booth-level workers, and kisan morcha workers.”

“We resigned from the party in protest of the delimitation commission’s proposed report, in which the constituency of Suchetgarh, which was created in 1996 and has 75,000 voters, was merged with RS Pura,” he added.

The BJP has won this border constituency three times in four elections since 1996, making it a stronghold for the party.

“It will not be tolerated if our constituency is completely wiped out. They had, we agree.

“It will not be tolerated if our constituency is completely wiped out. We agree that they conducted the exercise with caution, but that does not imply that they would completely eliminate our constituency. “This is a travesty,” Tarsaim said.
