PM Narendra Modi paid his first official visit to Jammu and Kashmir today, after the BJP-led central government repealed Article 370, which granted special status to J&K, in August 2019. According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Modi travelled to take part in National Panchayati Raj Day celebrations and address “Gram Sabhas” around the country. On the morning of April 24, security personnel in Jammu and Kashmir were informed to a “suspected blast” in the Jammu area, just hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally in the Union Territory on Sunday.
PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation stones for the 850 MW Ratle Hydroelectric Project & 540 MW Kwar Hydroelectric Project to be constructed on the Chenab river in Kishtwar District.
PM Narendra Modi also inaugurates the Banihal-Qazigund Road Tunnel, built at a cost of over Rs 3100 crores.
He reached visit Palli Panchayat in Samba district. More than 30,000 Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) members from Jammu and Kashmir are expected to attend the Prime Minister’s address, while PRIs from around the country will be connected virtually for the event.
Top business leaders from the UAE will accompany the PM during the visit. The UAE firms are expected to propose investments amounting to over Rs 3,000 crore. A multi-tier security setup has been put in place for Modi’s visit to Samba. An alert has also been sounded along the border and a high degree of vigilance is being maintained at vital installations in J&K in view of the visit. “A multi-tier security setup has been put in place in Samba and adjoining areas as a part of foolproof security,” a senior official told PTI.
