In the early hours of Thursday this week, a third-year BTech student at Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology (CCET), Sector 26, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his hostel room, Times of India reported on Friday.
Suneet Singh (20), a resident of Sharote village of Thathri in Doda district, was found by a classmate in the morning. Suneet had recently lost his father and was mourning his passing. According to investigators, no suicide note was found.
Police statement and primary investigation
The victim’s family has been notified, and a post-mortem will be performed once they arrive in the city, according to police on Friday.
The statements of his friends and college professors were recorded in order to figure out why he took this decision. A complaint was filed with the police under section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
“Suneet Singh and his roommate had returned to the hostel at 2.30 a.m. after purchasing packets of chips from a home essential grocery store,” according to Indian Express. He refused to sleep at the new hostel and insisted on staying in the old one. After failing to receive a response from Suneet after knocking on his door, the victim’s roommate forced open the door around 7.20 a.m. and found the body. He called the hostel warden and other students to raise an alert. Around 8.30 a.m., police learned of the incident.”
On the spot, a forensic team was called. The team looked around the room. “The victim’s father passed away a long time back. His mother obtained job in Jammu. Despite the fact that no suicide note was located in the room, the preliminary inquiry revealed no evidence of foul play. By hanging himself, the victim took his own life. A postmortem investigation of the deceased will be performed tomorrow, according to a police officer. At Sector 26 police station, a Daily Diary Register (DDR) was filed.
Family statement and allegations
A close relative of Suneet told The Chenab Times that Suneet’s family is opposing the statement of suicide, for which they say that Suneet’s nature was different and that he couldn’t commit suicide. He was also good in studies, and everything was going well.
He said that Suneet’s mother is employed as a Class IV (now known as multi-tasking staff MTS) in Jammu and all expenses were given by her. He never complained about anything strange to his mother. He went on to say that something was wrong because Suneet was not the type of boy who would commit suicide.
“I personally want to say that we can’t trust our children these days as the environment changes their nature.” But the situation there (in Chandigarh) reveals that Suneet had not committed suicide. We believe that someone was involved in his killing. He added that as Suneet was not found in his own room but in an old building near the hostel, which seemed to have been murdered by someone who hanged him there.”
