As the restrictions were lifted this week and the internet was also restored after eight to nine days across Doda district except Bhaderwah town, the district administration has issued a general advisory for internet users, especially social media users.
In a statement issued to The Chenab Times, district administration Doda informed the general public that circulating offensive messages through a communication device or an online mode of a menacing character, or a message that the sender knows to be false but is sent for the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience, danger, obstruction, insult, injury, criminal intimidation, enmity, hatred, or ill will, is a punishable offence under law. Some few such mischievous acts by some miscreants have been viewed very seriously by the administration and due action has been initiated against them. It is, as such, advised to all internet/social media users not to create or upload any hate speech audio, videos, posts, remarks, etc. which hurt, or are likely to hurt, the sentiments of any section of society, and are unlawful otherwise.
The statement further reads, “It is also enjoined upon all the users not to circulate such audios/videos/posts/material etc further on social media but to inform the administration immediately regarding the first-hand creator/uploader of such audios, videos, posts, remarks, material etc.” Any person found creating/uploading or circulating/sharing such objectionable material on social media shall be booked under the relevant section of law and stringent action shall be taken against such defaulters. ”
